What is Leadership Coaching?
Regardless of whether a company is large or small, it will need to have individuals who take up the mantel of the leader, and dictate the direction that the company should be headed in. The leader is a critical component of any business because of the diverse range of functions he/she performs. Leaders are not only required to think proactively, create industry- responsive business strategies, and effectively communicate the plans of the company, but also shoulder the responsibility of maximizing productivity.
More and more businesses are realizing that they are under-consuming their human capital. Workers are not motivated to perform their responsibilities and may therefore perform to the bare minimum, and in an uninspired fashion. A successful leader understands that every employee has potential that is waiting to be unlocked. A leader needs to be sensitive to the needs of his/her workforce and create a work culture that is conducive towards innovation and freedom of expression.

Leadership coaching can be broadly categorized to effect four components in a business – Empowerment, Creativity, Culture and Productivity.
Empowerment relates to the bond that employees share with a company. Individuals who spend the entire duration of their careers at a particular company are its most valuable assets. As such, employees must be motivated to develop a bond with their responsibilities and their company, such that they devote all their energies and attention towards bettering themselves. Employees will need to be able to visualize growth prospects within their career path, and given assurances that they are in the right place. Leadership coaching will teach individuals how to recognize what factors are most important to different individuals and delegate responsibility accordingly.
A work culture that is inclusive and welcoming is more likely to produce innovative and creative solutions to problems that the organization might be restricted by. Any successful manager of a creative business will explain that the key to unlocking the creative potential of an individual is to allow them to choose the work environment. The same principle also applies in other kinds of businesses. Employees who feel secure in their jobs are better placed to focus on the company’s problems and objectives.
Your employees spend an inordinate amount of time at the workplace and it is hugely important that they remain comfortable. Beyond the conditions of the workplace, the kind of character your workforce has is also extremely important. Leadership coaching will give you the requisite skills to gauge an individual’s character while recruiting so that there is no clash of personalities at the workplace. Leaders are responsible in the creation of a positive work environment where individuals support each other, rather than compete with each other.
Ultimately, it all boils down to performance. If a leader’s management style is ineffective, it will likely lead to a number of gaps in communication. These can hinder the progress of a business greatly, and in some cases, may even be its ruin. Leaders need to be able to measure productivity and vary management styles to cater to individual members of their workforce. Every employee is unique and needs to be treated accordingly. When employees are committed to their roles, and in harmony with each other, then productivity is guaranteed to rise. Leadership coaching relates man-management skills and motivational techniques that translate into tangible results.
